USD vs Mira Costa- City championship game 2
In the second game of the day USD’s inexperience caught up to them. USD outplayed the opposition in open play but had some major struggles at the set piece. Multiple opportunities were left wanting when USD could not win their own scrum put ins. It was a lesson in technique as the experienced Mira Costa pack overpowered USD consistently. The final score of 3 tries to 1 did not reflect the possession and territory rates of the game, but the opposition played to their strengths and deserved the win in the end. The lone USD try for the game was scored when freshman Conner Staal went up well for a high ball, gathered, and dished it to Henri Vatinel. Vatinel was the fastest man on the field Saturday, and showed it by scampering in for the score. Impressive defensive shifts were put in by multiple Toereros, with captain Mickey Miller leading the charge. Several massive collisions and 2 clean turnovers makes him our MVP pick for the game.
