City Championship- Tournament Wrap Up
USD went a disappointing 2-1 vs their opponents in the city championships. A young USD team did very well in some aspects, with some glaring weaknesses that were exposed in their lone loss of the day. Mickey Miller captained the side well all day. Miller was the ultimate security blanket outside of freshman Fly half Jordan Sandoval. Sandoval was one of two ironmen for USD who played all 120 minutes. Sandoval and sophomore front row Clayton Cervantes both gutted it out for some hard minutes. Cervantes did well in his first action playing hooker. Good performances were had across the board by rookies and veterans, and it is a second year player who earns tournament MVP. Darren Seward was outstanding all day playing multiple positions in the forward pack. Seward had a combination of huge breaks through the line, and tough carries into multiple defenders. His defensive work rate remains strong, as he won collisions constantly against big ball carriers. USD Rugby now turns their focus to a home game against Cal Maritime on November 17th.
